Excercise 1.8
2. I think John Yount choose this as the opening to pull his reader's into the book. It was a strong opening and catch's a person's eye. The theme I think it show's a the hardship the character goes through when jumping into the water and how his friends watch him go through so much pain to get away from the snakes that were going to slowly kill him. I think this show's that the book is going to be a central theme to hardship and bad luck.
3. The article is about a person's identity and how it is formed. This article gives you examples on what individuals do and do not do to get their identity. They talk about Erikson theory and then show a new theory to may or may not support his theory.
4. Yes my approach to the two selections were different. I read the first article without a problem and actually want to find this book to read it caught my attention. The second article I had to re-read twice to understand what they were saying. I was more interested in the first article than the second.
I really do not have any reading stragies I just read things that I am interested in.
I do re-read things when I feel confused or need to get a better outlook on the subject. I do highlight when I am looking for alot of information in one area. I think if I was reading for pleasure I would not worry about re-reading or highlighting. If this was an assignmet I would re-read and highlight so I get a better understanding.
I really did not look into these article's more after I read them in our book. So I cant say that I used my own advice on this assignment.
The most important thing about reading for a research paper is to get a better knowledge of the topic.
The key differences between the two was that the first article for pleasure and the second article was to inform a group of people.
I did not run into any problems with the first article. The second article I had to re-read because there was alot of information to take in to get the full meaning of the article.
Excercise 1.7
Primary Purpose: What is the United States doing to help?
What is their own Country doing to help?
What is the main cause for this war?
Argue: My thesis would be to inform the people about Darfur and what's being and not being done about it.
Analyze: My theory is what happened for this war to escalate to such great extremes.
A friend did a speech on Darfur and I have been glued to the subject ever since. I do not have any other prior beliefs or assumptions I just want to inform others.

Step 2
Nursing is something that seems promising to me. Yes this subject does raise questions since this is the degree that I am going for. More research on this topic will help me answer questions now and in the long run with other questions that may come up. One question that I think is particualry interesting is does every nurse have to go through the long hours in a hospital to gian rank or more resposibilities. Yes this what I have always wondered about. Yes because I do not want to spend 12 hours a day and not have a life outside of work. The knowledge I would like to gain from this is how to still do my job but not work the long hours.
Step 3
Will I have to work with needles all the time?
Will I have to see people die?
Will I have to deal with people who are missing limbs?
Will I have to deal with sick children?
Will I have to be a nurse for a family member?
What are the days/nights that have more accidents than other days?
Do you really became one big family at your work place?
