English 102
Step 1
It is ok to say things the instructor might disagree with.
You can use you own experiences and observations as evidence.
You are supposed to use your own opinions.
You are always supposed to make an argument.
You need to follow a formal structure.
I agree with all of the above statements. I really believe you should use your own opinions and experiences as evidence, it shows that you do know what you are talking about. Students would of course pick the one where its ok to say things that the instructor might disagree with, they want to challenge the teacher, the want to be able to express themselves if even it means the teacher gets a little upset.
Step 2
There is a big difference between facts and statements.
Facts and statements that can be proven true, where as opinions are your own personal beliefs. They are what you believe about something. If people thought fact and opinions were true we would have facts as grass is blue and pigs can fly. You would not be able to trust anything anyone says. People would be telling nothing but lies everything with science would or could be changed and nothing would make since. The world would be very different, that is why facts are facts and opinions are opinions.
